The Orchard Project | Bronswell Orchard
This is Brownswell Orchard, a beautiful old designated heritage orchard in Holbeton... It can be found at the end of the village before the winding path takes you through the woods and down to the estuary. The apple trees had become overgrown and dense, making them unmanageable for the volunteers and keen gardeners of the village.
The Devon Tree Co. was asked to assist with bringing the trees back to a more manageable condition; adhering to heritage guidelines, we pruned the trees, leaving any larger cuts as coronet tears, and stacked all the removed branches at the base of the trees, creating habitat piles, which will later rot down and enrich the orchard further. We were over the moon to be asked to help with such an important project in our own village, and we can't wait to see how the apples turn out next year.
